The start of October also marks the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month - an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities to increase awareness of the disease and raise funds for breast cancer research. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in American women. It is estimated that in 2021, approximately 30% of all new women cancer diagnoses will be breast cancer.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. In 2021 alone, it’s estimated that among women in the U.S., there will be 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 43,600 deaths. Although rare, men can get breast cancer too.
